Taylor & Francis is one of the world’s largest publishers of open access research. If you choose to publish with us, there is a wide range of open access options available to you. This means you can comply with any funder requirements and ensure your research makes a difference.
Authors have the option to publish Open Access in a variety of book formats, from monographs and handbooks, to textbooks and short form titles (books between 25-50k words). To get a better understanding of where your book will fit, read our guide to submitting your new book proposal, or contact the Commissioning Editor for your subject area.
Taylor & Francis open access book titles benefit from the same high standards of professionalism and expertise as our non-open access titles. When you are looking to publish an open access book or chapter you will usually be required to pay a book publishing charge (BPC). The BPC supports the many costs associated with publishing a book including editorial services, peer review, copyediting, typesetting, e-book conversion and dissemination, as well as ongoing marketing, sales and editorial support. Our open access books follow the same workflows as our non-open access books, therefore, many of these costs are shared.
The BPC also covers the long-term preservation of our open access books through a range of third parties including Portico and depositing our books and chapters in the OAPEN online library to enhance discoverability of our open access content.
We will still provide print copies of our open access books and royalties will still be payable on any print sales (if applicable). As we will no longer be selling the eBook no royalties will be payable on this version.
The BPC to publish a full monograph Open Access immediately (Gold OA) start from £10,000 / €12,000 / $12,500, plus applicable taxes. The BPC to publish a short form book OA start from £5,000 / €6,000 / $6,250.
Prices for individual chapters start from £1,250 / €1,500 / $1,563 plus applicable tax. Our BPC pricing is reviewed regularly.
The BPC will need to be paid by the time the final manuscript is submitted to Taylor & Francis for Production, unless otherwise agreed.
There are many funding options available to help you cover these fees, and the Taylor & Francis Open Access Books team are here to help you navigate the funding landscape.
Taylor & Francis is committed to bringing research by scholars in emerging nations to the attention of the global academic community. We also want to make the option to publish open access available to as many researchers as possible. To help achieve this we offer reduced pricing on BPCs normally required to publish in the Taylor & Francis Books Open Access programme for funders based in countries defined by the World Bank as ‘Low -Income Economies’ or ‘Lower-Middle -Income Economies’. Please see our Publication charges FAQ for full details. For more information on Funding Options, Copyright Licence Queries, Publication Charges, Peer-Review, Publishing Suitability & Formats and Submission & Content Guidelines for Authors see our FAQ page.

Like our traditional publishing, the open access book proposal will be evaluated initially by the subject editor then peer-reviewed by respected academic specialists who provide independent advice on the content, quality, and potential market for a finished book. If peer reviews are positive, the subject editor will take the book proposal to an internal editorial meeting for consideration.
